Memorable  Moments

with Allen

Friends for Life

Every now and then I have the opportunity to meet and work with some very special people. This summer I had the privilege  to work with one of these special people.  What started out as a short term helper for the summer, ended up to be a learning process for both and a pleasurable experience that I will never forget.     This summer I had the privilege of working with Allen.

I wasn't a complete stranger to Allen,  I did see him several years prior when Val and I took a few kitties over to his mother; so I did see him then but we never spoke to each other.  My first real encounter with Allen is when he approached me this summer for a job.  When I spoke to Allen about a job, I gave him my worse case scenario.   Because of his age, I soon realized that he could not be using any power tools, but what I really needed most of all was a helper - someone who would be willing to free me up from some of the manual type work, someone who would be willing to get dirty one day and come back the next day for more.   Allen assured me that he was willing to do what ever it took and impressed me by saying, "I can and will do it!!"      I just smiled.  I had my doubts but I was willing to see what he could do.    Allen kept his word.    He Could and Would and Did do it..  Way to Go Allen!!!

Below are some of my memorable pictures along with a few bits and pieces about our events.  Hey!  Not everything in life is 'All Work and No Play'.   Granted, we worked hard but we had a lot of good times also.    Like DQ Thursdays and Fund Day Fridays...   OOPS!!!  I'm a little ahead of myself..   Lets start from the beginning.

Every morning began with his cheerful smile.  I never knew what to expect next from Allen.  I have to give his mother a lot of credit for going along with our daily jokes.  One day they pulled up with his favorite song blaring from the radio while I was greeted with his cheerful smile and laughter .

Bad Boys!   Bad Boys!!

Allen deserves a lot of credit.  Not many adults start their day with such strong convictions and a positive attitude.    Remember the allergies.  We had many miserable days but he never gave up..

Check out that lunch box.  Trust me!!  Mom packed him a lunch for three and it always went home empty.  Where he put all that food is beyond me..

Ok!  So I took a few pictures throughout the summer. I did this for several reasons.  First of all,  Allen and I could look back at his accomplishments.  Last but not least,  We had a surprise for Allen and these pictures were going to be part of it..

Hey!  Why the red face?...

Why does he keep looking back at the car?

What's that lady doing?   Ok! Mom!!   That Big Red Charger  Ain't No School Bus;  And You Ain't Holding His Hand..

Geeez! Mom!!  What are the guys going to think.

Mom, You were a real sport, Thanks for the picture... .
