When Val moved here in May of 2001,  she had always talked about having a horse.   Keep in mind that I had the Donkeys all along so I'm sure she was thinking of a horse being like the donkeys.  It wasn't long and we found what might be a good  horse in the news paper ads, so Val called to get more information.   The trip down to Canon Falls was a long one but we made it.   I'll never forget pulling up in to the owners' yard.  I looked out to the holding pen and here was this big brown horse.   I never in my life would think that this horse would be the one for sale but it turned out he was.   When asked if I would like to ride him, I said No!   I knew from the start that this horse was everything Val would want but the owner wasn't ready to sell him to just anyone...  He wanted to make sure this guy got a good home.  When he pulled out a saddle and a bridle,  I just chuckled, I saddled up the horse, tied a rope to the halter and told the owner that this horse don't need a bridle.   I rode Nutmeg around a bit and had him trot - back - we did a few  roll-backs and tore up the lawn until I took him down this long dirt road.      This horse would do anything asked of him...   He would stop on a dime..  We did a few side steps and I backed him about 50 feet and even backed him down a ditch.   By the time I got back to the owner, I was sold...   I knew this was the horse for Val.   What Val didn't know, this horse would teach her.    We closed the deal and then had to find a way to bring him home.   It turns out the owner hauled him home for us...   What a Day!!!

When Val came to visit me from NJ, the biggest horse that she had ever seen were the ones at Wal-Mart.  I remember taking her to the stables where my daughter Joanne kept her horse.  Talk about a city slicker...   We didn't say anything to Val at the time but I know what Joanne had to be thinking.

This is Val in our round pen.  We made this one long 'after' she learned how to ride.  Looks like Val forgot a bridle.   Guess that was so Nutmeg could eat more grass.

This is Val in her first year of riding.. Nutmeg was a very good teacher..  He taught her everything he knew.   I've had many horses over the years but never did I have a horse like this.
He would do anything asked of him.
